SEND IN PHOTOS AND SHORT VIDEOS FOR THE SITE

We have plenty of space in our two slide shows to add more photos. Crack open your shoe box full of old photos, scan them, and send them to ghs68reunion@aol.com and we will add them to the reunion archives. If you can add a caption to the photo that identifies the people pictured, it will be a big help. If not, let us know who they are and we will caption the photo at this end.

If you have access to a video cam, shoot a short video message to your class mates. You do not have to attend the reunion to send a message to your old 'mates.

Events Added to Schedule

Please scroll down, enjoying the blog "scenery" as you do, to the reunion schedule, where information about golf and the Gainesville tour has been added. You'll also see a new event on Sunday before brunch. There will be more on that event later.

HOTEL ROOMS AT LAST !!!

Blocks of rooms in Gainesville are now established at two hotels under "GHS Class of '68." The rates are good for reunion reservations made through June 6 at both locations. Mention "GHS Class of '68" when you make your reservations.

The Paramount Plaza at 2900 SW 13th Street (south US 441) may be more familiar as the Gainesville Sheraton or Hilton in earlier incarnations. It has the same beautiful view of Bivens Arm and will be the site of our Sunday morning memorial and brunch. You may also see classmates by the Paramount pool Saturday afternoon or arrange for a group of friends to meet you there. There are non-smoking rooms with either one king bed or two double beds, for $89 plus tax per night for June 20-22. That rate is also good for three nights before and three nights after our reunion. The reservation line there is 377-4000 (local) and 877-992-9229 (toll free). The Paramount's website is simply www.paramountplaza.com .

The SpringHill Suites by Marriott at 4155 SW 40th Boulevard off Archer Road at I-75 is a newer hotel. We have a block of rooms including single suites, double suites and a parlor suite for $119 plus tax per night for June 20-22. The reservation line there is 352/376-8873 and the website is www.marriott.com/gnvsh .

Let us know if you have any questions about lodging or difficulties with making reservations by an email to ghs68reunion@aol.com . You can shop around for other accommodations in Gainesville on the Visitors and Convention Bureau website, www.visitgainesville.com , (there's a link right on this blog), and on many other sites, of course. See you in June!

A Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On: The Reunion Committee Meets at Gator's Dockside

The committee met last night at Gator's Dockside, the site of the first evening of our Reunion celebration in June. A few snippets from the meeting:
The deadline for signing up is May 15. We have had good response with a number of folks who have not before attended our reunions. We think we will have a fine gathering and hope that you stragglers will not miss out. Your next chance to do this is when you are 68.
The golf event(s) are under the noble leadership of Ken Nibling and he has worked hard to put it all together. A full report with video should be posted very soon.
The Friday night gathering is in a large sports bar type of restaurant, Gator's Dockside. We all have enjoyed our meetings there and their menu can satisfy anyone from the burger/fries lover to a Chinese-style chicken salad with low calorie raspberry vinegarette (I want that recipe, Gator's). We will be decorating and having some hors d's for you. We have been inviting some classes adjacent to ours to attend if they like. If you know of someone in that category, tell them to "come on down."
The Saturday evening gathering at the Country Club should be fun with a tasty menu planned. There will be music of our era, but no formal DJ yapping away. That alone is a good reason to attend.
On Sunday, we plan a brief memorial service to remember our deceased classmates followed by a brunch before closing out our 40th reunion.
We are looking forward to a fine time. It is not too late to sign up to join us.

How To Buy Your Official Reunion T-shirt, Hat, etc.

Official GHS 68 Reunion apparel etc. is now available through www.cafepress.com/ghs68shop. At this writing, Cafe Press has a t shirt available with the reunion logo on the front and a large "68" on the back. Also, they have two hats for sale. Other items may be placed on the site soon.

You must go to that web site and order them directly from Cafe Press. We will not be selling these at the reunion so you will need to be proactive and order your own. The beauty of this is that it is easy for the committee to set this up, easy for you to order, and there is no financial "down stroke" for the committee.

General Information and Schedule of Events

40th CLASS REUNION: June 20-22, 2008

The schedule for this past reunion has been posted on the Yahoo group/forum (see link with other links) for safe keeping.

We are discussing how long to maintain the blog and we are leaning towards doing so ad infinitum. The Yahoo group/forum will keep on keeping on so sign up and send in your thoughts, etc.

Also note that our reunion e-mail address is and will remain ghs68reunion@aol.com.

HOW TO ENJOY PRE-REUNION PHOTOS OF YOUR CLASSMATES (HELP FOR THE COMPUTER-CHALLENGED)! Go to the SLIDE SHOW at the top of the blog page to watch the photos. To control the slide show, place your cursor over the slide and use the pause, forward, and backward arrows that will appear. Double click the slide and you will be directed to the Picasa photo site. There you can see a larger version of the photo you clicked. Click VIEW ALBUM to enter the web album of all the pre-reunion photos we have placed in the blog. At that point, you may order any copies of the photos you would like to or watch, send photos to friends, or watch a full screen version of the slide show. Have fun.

When sending in electronic images, please identify who is in the picture and who is sending it. Many of us look exactly like we did in our youth, some of us do not so identification helps the blog maester. Some photo programs allow you to label or caption each shot to identify the people pictured. If you can do this before sending it in, it will save us time at this end.
